Why Would Anyone Need a Book of Prayers? I love thrifting with my daughter. We often find small thrift shops wherever we go. My favorite section is usually the books. One day, I found an armful of books on prayer. Some of these books have canned prayers for many topics. Why would anyone need a book of prayers?  I spent the better part of 2024-2025 studying prayer and increasing my prayer life. The prayers in these books were refreshing, providing words and structure when I didn't know what to pray. The preference of praying with a written text or with my own personal words is not an either/or proposition.  In Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4, Jesus taught his disciples to pray.  In Matthew (NIV): "This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father, in heaven, hallowed by your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven, Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
