Why Would Anyone Need a Book of Prayers? I love thrifting with my daughter. We often find small thrift shops wherever we go. My favorite section is usually the books. One day, I found an armful of books on prayer. Some of these books have canned prayers for many topics. Why would anyone need a book of prayers? I spent the better part of 2024-2025 studying prayer and increasing my prayer life. The prayers in these books were refreshing, providing words and structure when I didn't know what to pray. The preference of praying with a written text or with my own personal words is not an either/or proposition. In Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4, Jesus taught his disciples to pray. In Matthew (NIV): "This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father, in heaven, hallowed by your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven, Give us today our daily bread.
